Windows Server 2012 feedback

Quenn van Niekerk, a 2012 graduate from CTU Training Solutions Pretoria & the lucky winner of the Microsoft Windows 8 Slate, dives down deep into the new Microsoft Windows Server 2012 technology.  This is what he has to say about the new technology.

As a student, how did you find Windows Server 2012 as a new technology in comparison to Windows Server 2008?
I found the new Server 2012 to be a long awaited arrival. The new Metro style GUI and Aero (or Transparency) features give Server 2012 a brand new and exciting look, but besides the look of server 2012 I found the new server manager with the new server groups feature to be a good change from 2008. I personally enjoy the new direction Microsoft has taken with server 2012. The start menu is something that needs getting used to, but isn't a pain after you have mastered the Hot Corner features. I'm also excited about the new Resilient File System (ReFS) which will be better in protecting against data losses.

What is the main feature of Windows Server 2012 that stands out for you and why?
For me the main feature that stands out would have to be the Hyper-V replication features.  As I use Hyper-V Virtual machines a lot, replicating them from one computer to another over a network connection is a dream. Without the need for any shared storage.

Microsoft refers to Windows Server 2012 as being the only OS to be built from the cloud up, what does this mean to you?
What this means to me is that Windows have created an OS that is specifically suited for the cloud environment which will allow for alot more agility and flexibility.  This is going to allow for reduced costs and efficiency in the network, by adding Hyper-V Network Virtualizations and new storage option within the cloud computing environment which in turn largely reduces hardware costs.  It will also allow the new server manager to manage and control local as well as remote servers. Cloud computing will also allow Server 2012 to provide not just storage in the cloud, but also apps with the windows azure technology.

What do you think are the main advantages for Small to Medium size businesses implementing the new Windows Server 2012?
I think there are still a large amount of advantages for small to medium size businesses, because of the new technologies implemented in Windows Server 2012. For example: the Dynamic Access Control and Access-Denied Assistance which controls access to data on file servers more granularly. They will also gain in processing power with their heavily loaded websites with the improved CPU Throttling in IIS 8. Not to mention the new Server manager with the new server groups and Hyper-V replications are only a few things to name which will provide the businesses with so much more possibilities and improve overall productivity and proficiency.

You are now a qualified MCSA Windows Server student, where do plan on going from here?
I plan on furthering my studies in the IT field in specialising my MCSA and possibly getting my MSCE.  And I will also be studying other courses in IT such as CCNA and CCNP.  Then when that is all said and done I hope that I will be able to get a company that would like to use my skills in furthering there growth in IT and as well as mine, by providing me with a decent career.
