Delegates attended Tech4Africa
from all walks of life - from young school students to Varsity students, and
high tech developers and hackers. CTU is
very excited to have been part of the Tech4Africa Conference event! If you haven’t heard about Tech4Africa then
you have not lived! This event was
action packed with workshops about technology development and exposure to
what’s happening with technology around the rest of Africa.
CTU and Microsoft
joined up for the Tech4Africa event and ran a Microsoft Windows 8 workshop and
this is what technology specialist Jarrod Hermer had to say: “If
you’re a developer, Windows 8 gives you an amazing platform to reach the
millions of people around the world who use Windows every day to be more
productive, creative, and to have fun. With Windows 8, you have unprecedented
access and opportunity to reach that worldwide customer base early. Windows 8
represents the most significant platform opportunity available to developers, with
a chance to reach millions of people with your amazing metro style apps.”
The three hour workshop run at Tech4Africa was well attended. We covered
various topics; from the new user interface to integrating with the search and
share charms. During the workshop we also covered the Azure platform and how
you can use Azure Mobile Services to quickly build a scalable backend or take
advantage of the full Azure platform by using web workers.
CTU is proud of our
two students, Paul Milne and Ockert Nel, who showcased their developer
work.

This is what Ockert
Nel from CTU had to say about the Tech4Africa event:
I would like to thank CTU
for electing me as one of the CTU nationwide MCPD students that was to
represent CTU programming at Tech4Africa 2012 from 31 October to 1 November. It
was a great honor to stand proud next to one of CTU’s banners with my bright orange
CTU t-shirt on. It is indeed a company/college to be proud of and it is nice to
acknowledge that I did study at CTU.
Knowledge is power and that was something that Tech4Africa represented
with pride.
The event was very
resourceful and it was good to see where technology is taking Africa and the
world, there are a lot of successful people out there and you should never be
afraid of taking on new opportunities. The more you risk the more doors will
open on your way.
“You jump off a cliff,
and assemble a plane before you hit the ground.” That is what today’s
ever-growing digital world is heading to.
