In partnership with MICT SETA, who provided the funding, BULA, the company managing the project, and CTU Training Solutions, this training provider successfully trained 86 unemployed youth from in and around Phomolong township, who all proceeded to graduate on the 15 October 2011.
The Municipality of Matjhabeng kindly provided their community centre as venue for the Learnership. CTU moved in with their mobile unit consisting of 100 laptops and a server, and under the stringent eye of their Learnership Project Manager, Mrs Elsie Rautenbach, and her facilitators, 86 learners were found competent under difficult circumstances.
Elsie Rautenbach - Learnership project manager, CTU;
Mr Jabu Sebuko - MICT SETA;
Antoinette Reitz – COO, CTU.
Because of the inaccessibility and shortage of companies in the rural area in and around Henneman, it was not possible to host the learners for their workplace experience modules, but CTU was able to compromise on this challenge. By introducing Virtual Labs which substituted the workplace experience precisely as required by the unit standard outcomes, the learners all obtained the necessary exposure to successfully complete their workplace Portfolios of Evidence!
The honourable guests present at the graduation were:
Mr Jabu Sibeko from MICT SETA
Mr T. Rulashe – Matjhabeng LM SDF
Mr Buthelezi – Matjhabeng LM Training Office
Me Mfebe – Representative of the Mayor’s Office
Me Antoinette Reitz – CTU Training Solutions COO
They all motivated the learners with their inspirational words of wisdom to strive for excellence in all that they do.
After an emotional rapture of the National anthem the graduation was inaugurated and the dignitaries proceeded to hand out the prestigious National certificates to the learners under thunderous applause from the proud parents and learners alike.
Two young Ladies, Me Sharon Tladi & Valencia Khasu, simultaneously achieved the “Top student of the Year” award and each received a hamper gift pack for their achievement, and so did Jonas Lichakane as runner-up.
Mr Mothobuka from BULA was the MC and delighted the audience with his quirky humour and professional conduct. After graduation, photographs were taken and everyone enjoyed light refreshments.
For the 86 previously disadvantaged youth the future looks much brighter now and CTU prides itself to have been instrumental in die development and training of each of them.
