The second most difficult thing you will ever have to do in your time at school is deciding which subjects to take. Do you choose subjects in which you know you will perform? Or do you choose subjects which will be compulsory for your tertiary studies?
According to Karin Venter, Helping Hand’s Career Guidance Services, “the focus should rather be on achieving good marks in the right subjects! At this stage, number-oriented subjects, such as accountancy and mathematics, offer the widest variety of options for further study” (Article: Subject choices aimed at the future).
Venter also states
that mathematics is often regarded as the gateway to further studies because it
develops learners’ skills, perseverance and problem solving abilities. Mathematics
is essential if you want do any computer training or IT studies like
programming, CISCO or web development. It
does not matter if Maths is not your best subject. The important thing is that
you have it as a subject.
It is an important
subject if you want to study certain programmes at CTU. You will need Maths if
you want to study Network Professional: CISCO, IT Systems Developer: MCPD and
Computer Aided Draughting and Design.
CTU’s advice for
you is to make an informed decision about your future and studies by doing your
research from early on. Get as much information as possible about your selected
study choice/s so that you can choose the right subjects. Come to any of our
campuses, speak to our career consultants and find out how CTU can make your
study dreams come true.
